Carlos Alves Duarte, 51 years old, is Member of the Executive Committee at Portugal Telecom, the largest Portuguese telecommunications company, with over eighty five million customers in Portugal, Brazil, Africa and Asia, as at the end of year 2010. Carlos Alves Duarte was appointed in March 2009 for the 2009-2011 term.

Carlos Alves Duarte began his career at PT as Member of the Board of Directors of the business solutions division (PT Prime) and as CEO of the corporate division (PT Corporate) in 2003. Carlos Alves Duarte serves as Member of the Board of Directors of the domestic business company (PT Portugal), including the fixed-line and the mobile business, and he is Chairman of the information systems division (PT Sistemas de Informação).

Prior to joining PT, Carlos Alves Duarte served as CEO of Oni Telecom, from 2000 to 2003; CEO of Oni Açores, from 2001 to 2003; CEO of EDS Ibéria, from 1996 to 2000; General Manager at IBM, Global Services from 1986 to 1996; Chairman of Rigorsoft, from 1995 to 1996 and Member of the Board of Directors of Compensa, SA, from 1995 to 1996.

Carlos Alves Duarte holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Instituto Superior Técnico, followed by a post-graduate degree in Welding Engineering and a master’s degree in Marketing Management and Sales.
