PT and Telefónica are going to proceed with a joint restructuring of VIVO. The objective is to concentrate in one single organisation, listed in Sao Paolo and New York (Vivo Participações), the share holders of organisations held by Brasilcel. The operation will benefit the structure of the Brazilian operator and will allow it to become more agile and it will strengthen the PT commitment within the Brazilian market and within the joint-venture with Telefonica. 
 

The exhibition “PT close to you” has arrived in the Azores. Parked in the city of Ponta Delgada, on the island of São Miguel, the Portugal Telecom truck promises to show all the emotions of communications. Highlight went to the availability, via Cabo TV Açoreana of access to the four television channels and to RTP Açores 

TMN has just launched Sony Ericsson W800i triband, the first walkman mobile of national market, conceived for professionals and companies which allows for the storage of contents of over 10 Music CDs. This new TMN product is on sale at TMN stores and TMN agents for professionals.

TV Cabo, via Cabo TV Açores, signed this Saturday a protocol with the Regional Government of the Azores. The Portuguese Government and ICP/Anacom which will allow all Azoreans Access to the four television channels and to RTP Açores, irrespective of being or not clients of the company. This initiative aims at contributing towards the development of the information and know-how society within this autonomous region and reinforcing ties with the regional community. 

The Football Service of the SAPO Portal futebol.sapo.pt is a new free of charge service, exclusive for over 900 thousand broadband clients of the PT Group (SAPO ADSL, NetCabo, Telepac and PT WI-FI).
 

The Portugal Telecom Group’s net results attained, in the first nine months of 2005, Euro 318.6 million. Renovating the commitment of remunerating shareholders in an attractive manner, Portugal Telecom and PT Multimedia announced an increase of 10% in dividends to be distributed in relation to 2005 to 38,5 and 27,5 cents per share, respectively.

Portugal Telecom is the new official sponsor of Sport Lisboa e Benfica’s main team as of 2005/2006.  The contract valid for a 5-year period was signed on 1st June at the Estádio da Luz in the presence of Miguel Horta e Costa. 

 TMN decided to start a new phase of its 3G network implementation phase in Portugal, in line with the aim of consolidating its position in the mobile telecommunications market. The objective is to attain one Million 3G clients in 2006.

Portugal Telecom and Telefónica announced the names Fernando Xavier Ferreira for Chairman of the Board of Directors at Brasilcel and Roberto Oliveira as Chairman of VIVO. These nominations are a result of a strategy of the two groups which hopes to reinforce Brazilian executives in the management of the dome of the mobile operator.

Funtastic Life was presented today, a new package of channels which will bring to you even more entertainment, movies, series, documentaries, children’s programs and music to TV Cabo. This reality is only possible through the strong focus on digitalising the network.   

Today, the 19th of May, the PT Group quadruples, to all their clients, free of charge and in a completely automatic manner, the access width to ADSL and Cable Internet, from 512k to 2Mb and from 1Mb to 4Mb. The Portugal Telecom’s General Shareholders meeting took place on the 29th April where the accounts related to the year 2004 were approved. Following its policy of paying its shareholders, the share buyback program for shares of up to 10% of capital and the distribution on a 35 cent divided per shares was approved. The performance of the company was not forgotten, and a vote of honour for the administration was approved.

The PT Multimédia General Shareholders Meeting which took place on Thursday, approved the ten points on the agenda. One must highlight the share buyback through the issuing of Warrants over own shares and dividend distribution in money of €0,50 per share.

Júnior, a hip-hop band won the TMN Garage Sessions contest, which finished on Friday at Club Lua, in Lisbon. The band won its presence at the Southwest Festival on the main stage and will now record a CD and their music will be on a TMN campaign.

Two big shows closed the 5 million TMN clients celebrations with 24 hours of simultaneous music, in Lisbon and in Porto.

The results presented by Portugal Telecom related to the first quarter of the year show a growth in revenue from broadband and Subscription TV and exceeded analyst expectations.

With the idea of having a PT delegation in China, Portugal Telecom and ZTE signed in Shanghai a technical and scientific cooperation agreement which will allow both companies to reinforce their cooperation regarding the investigation and development of new products and services and to increase their activities in various markets.

The Portugal Telecom and the European Investment Bank (BEI) signed a credit contract in the value of 150 million euros, which corresponds to the first portion of an already approved global credit of 250 million euros which is related to TMN’s expansion investment whose first phase includes the installation of a UMTS network and the development of the GSM/GPRS network.

Sapo Sound Bits brought together approximately 15 thousand people at  pavilion 4 at FIL (Lisbon International Fair) at Parque das Nações. It would not be too much to say that the event was a true success.

Together with SAPO, PT Wi-Fi launched the e-voucher which allows the purchase of the vouchers through the internet. This product is available at the SAPO portal and on the Pt Wi-Fi site. PT Wi-Fi clients currently have access to over one thousand hotspots in Europe.
