éPT! Christmas: Help Those in Need
Thursday, December 09, 2004

The 6th of December marked the beginning of the Public and Interactive Screen as well as the display of the Christmas Tree. Similarly to last year, it is predicted that there will be over ninety thousand interactions with the screen which will allow for the donation of a substantial amount to be made to social help institutions which PT supports.

For a socially responsible company like PT, this Christmas season is a time to promote initiatives that will improve the lives of those in need.

On the opening day of the screen, Miguel Horta e Costa, Chairman of the Executive Commission, said that the Social Solidarity Puzzle “is a stopping point for all those who want to help and to give those in need a better Christmas”. He also added that “the modernity of Portugal Telecom is at the service of those in need”.

It has been proved that the modernity of the Group has been at the service of those in need. The success of this initiative is expected not only in terms of the participation of the general public but also with monetary support conceded to the following institutions: Portuguese Association for those with Liver Failure in Coimbra, SOL, CAIS, Cáritas Diocesan of Leiria, ACAPO and the Aboim Ascensão Refuge.

We remember that it is possible to interact with the screen through the use of SMS via the TMN or fixed network, or by taking of a photograph using a Webcam which is set up on the South entrance of the Picoas building. Note that Portugal Telecom will contribute with one euro to the institutions supported this Christmas.

One of the most important initiatives this Christmas was the display of the Christmas Tree next to the Picoas building. In the official opening speech, Miguel Horta e Costa stated that “for a company that is as socially responsible as PT, this is also a time to promote initiatives which will improve the lives of those in need” while pointing out that “doing good is not only confined to specific moments. It’s an attitude and a routine of doing good”. Prior to the speech from the Chairman of the Executive Committee, the Portugal Telecom Choir sung Christmas Carols which gave start to the party. The social solidarity institutions that are being supported in this project this Christmas also received a letter informing that a donation would be made.

A Children’s Show was also held on this day at the Telecom Forum. This party was dedicated to the children of those who work at the PT Group. Some of the activities at party included the handing out of the KIT ALEGRIA (JOY KIT), balloon shaping, a photo shoot with the Panda from the cable TV channel and the draw of a Pocket PC.
