The Portugal Telecom foundation was born

On 28th June the Pavilion of Portugal received various personalities for the official presentation of the Portugal Telecom Foundation. A commitment with the community to fight infoexclusion, support citizens with special needs, innovation and arts and culture.  

To share know-how, to share modernity and to share development. This is the set of sharings underlying the creation of the Portugal Telecom Foundation which renders concrete the commitment to social intervention and development support assumed by the Portugal Telecom Group.

  

                      
Miguel Horta e Costa, Executive Chairman of Portugal Telecom presented this event as the accomplishment of a dream which will now strengthen the various components (social responsibility, cultural protection and fight infoexclusion) in which the group is involved. "Portugal Telecom is connected to the lives of the Portuguese so it must compensate the society ".            


                       

Henrique Granadeiro, Chairman of the Portuagl Telecom Foundation underlined the function of the Group as "a social development engine and an important boost to networks that make up modern societies ". According to him, social responsibility is accomplished through the change and transformation of the society in which the company is positioned, improving the quality of life of those who benefit from it.

            

The excellency policies have not been forgotten.  Henrique Granadeiro referred to the importance in the creation of the PT Acadmey which will allow the best students to attend the best courses linked to information technology and communication.                   

In the year in which Portugal Telecom appeals to national cultural values, with the recent institutional campaign inspired on a poem by Luís de Camões, the Chairman of the Portugal Telecom Foundation quoted Fernando Pessoa when the latter referred to the mystery of creation: God wants; Man dreams; the masterpiece is born. "Today the Portugal Telecom Foundation was born", he concluded.

           
                            
Norberto Fernandes, Delegate Director of the Portugal Telecom Foundation, said that the constitution of the Portugal Telecom Foundation "translates the natural evolution of the performance of a corporate group whose history has always crossed with that of the communities in which it is integrated. The PT Group has a past and present of strong social, cultural and environmental involvement and what we are presenting to you today is a project of continuity and intensification of this work. ".

           
 

                         
For the Delegate Director this is not just another Foundation.  "Sharing with analogous organisations identical concerns with in the scope of social development, our approach has the mark of the Group we represent, which is the introduction of innovation, of technology in favour of the people and of the establishment of competencies as key areas of our performance, focusing what the Group does best: Good communications for the people and the fight against infoexclusion ", he underlines.

            
                             
The Foundation looks upon the world in a unique way and follows a tradition of goodwill which is the Portugal Telecom Group’s mark of innovation, change and improvement.
