PT provides video surveillance for monuments in Évora

Within the scope of the “PT Close to You” Road show, Portugal Telecom will provide, for the first time in Portugal, a video surveillance solution in some of the National monuments in the historical centre in Évora.
The “PT Chose to you” Road show is at this moment, at the Praça do Giraldo. Following Leiria, Coimbra and Bragança, this is the fourth stop of this technological display which will go around to all of the districts capitals. A possibility to show PT Group’s technological products. The 16th and 17th of March were reserved for School visits.
On the 18th, the Road show was opened to clients and employees, and on this day, members of the Executive Commission visited the Group’s stores in the city. This event’s agenda, has also scheduled a lunch and a workshop for the district’s employees. The 19th of March (Saturday) is dedicated to visits for the general public.
And it was within the scope of the “PT Close to You” road show that Portugal Telecom will provide a video surveillance solution for some of the National monuments in the historical city of Évora.
The launch of this partnership comes as a response to the security and conservation needs referred to by the IPPAR (Portuguese Institute for Architectonic Heritage), of the 36 properties which are currently classified in the Borough, to which Portugal Telecom responded to with the study and development of a tailor-made solution which will use the most advanced technology available in the Group’s companies.
According to Henrique Granadeiro, Chairman of the Portugal Telecom Foundation and Advisor of the Eugénio de Almeida Foundation, this initiative marks a “meeting with modernity, represented by PT, and the classicism of the city”.
Miguel Horta e Costa stated that “the PT Group is aware of its social responsibility and of its role in the development of solidarity in general”. For the Executive Chairman, the current challenge covers the development of the information society, “which is an essential factor for the development of Portugal, not only at National level, but at European level”. With this initiative, Miguel Horta e Costa hopes that this will be the first step towards a new future.
With this agreement, the Treasure Room in the Évora Cathedral and the two rooms which access to it will be monitored by three video surveillance cameras, as well as another five cameras which will monitor the Ruins Room, the Entrance, the Shop and Training Room in the IPPAR head office in Évora. A video server will also be installed in the head office which will function with a wireless solution, therefore avoiding the presence of transmission cables and other elements which could place the monuments structure in danger.
In compliance to their development of the Information Society policy, Portugal Telecom intends to place Évora on the innovation map by installing a wireless broadband Internet connection at the Praça do Giraldo, at the Évora Library and at the Eugénio de Almeida Foundation.
According to the Chairman on the Évora Town Council, José Ernesto d’Oliveira “it is an honour to be able to have such a wide and comprehensive technology in a city which stands out as leader in the interior of the country”. According to the Chairman “no other place better than Évora could have been chosen to demonstrate the joining of modernity and the preservation of our heritage”. He also complemented the way in which Portugal Telecom and its local employees have contributed towards the development of the region. Still following its social responsibility commitment, Portugal Telecom has given 12 computers which have been equipped with PT special solutions to the Malagueira school.
To celebrate the passing of the road show in Évora, the population in general were offered all calls made from the 266 area code between 7pm of the 18th of March and 9am of the 19th. A cinema ticket will also be given on the purchase of another for Lusomundo Cinemas at the Eborim Shopping Centre between the 15th and 19th of March as well as various conditions and special discounts at PT Group stores.
