Scheduled to take place from the 25th of April and the 1st of May (with the qualifying rounds on the 23rd and 24th of April) the 16th edition of the Estoril Open once again establishes its reputation in an unavoidable National event. This year, the Estoril Open will includes a variety of sporting champions as well as social ones, new points of interest within the infrastructure set up by Lagos Sport at Jamor. The tournament will also be associated to the celebration of the 80th Anniversary of the Portuguese Tennis Federation and will also serve as a way to announce the 2005 TMN Masters.
Filled with male and female celebrities, the 16th edition of the Open has various points of interest. Regarding male players, the most well known to step foot onto the Jamor courts will be Juan Carlos Ferrero, Carlos Moya, Albert Costa winner of the previous edition, Juan Ignacio Chela as well as promising players such as Nicolas Massu (doubles champion at the Olympic Games) and Joachim “Pim-Pim” Johansson (record holder for largest number of aces in one game), among others. In the female category there is Jelena Dokic, a player who, after a turbulent season is back on the courts, and Dinara Safina a promising young Russian and sister of Marat Safin.

At a social level, the tournament also has life and has suffered some changes. The Sponsors’ Village was moved to the other side of the Jamor rivulet which means that, for the first time, the Estoril Open will have a much larger social area. Various events will also take place during this year’s tournament. As has already been mentioned, the 2005 TMN Masters will be announced, there will also be a Cat Show, a concert played by the Lisbon Metropolitan orchestra, amongst many other activities.

As the largest sponsor, PT will be present through TMN, TV Cabo, PT Wi-Fi, Lusomundo Cinemas and PT Comunicações. The PT Group will provide Internet throughout the entire site through the installation of wireless Internet of PT Wi-Fi, as well as other marketing campaigns. Miguel Horta e Costa, Executive Chairman of the PT Group stated that “Portugal Telecom insists on being present at this tournament, but also in supporting other important sports events in the country”, while pointing out that “the Estoril Open is one of the most important sporting events in Portugal and that Portugal Telecom is always present”. João Lagos, Director of Lagos Sport mentioned that “this year is a turning point for the tournament. A turn for the best and most of all we want to grow more. We have already grown in terms of physical space. Now we have to grow in the competitive sense”.
From the 25th of April to the 1st of May, all of the tennis emotions will be at the Estoril Open.
