SAPO launches Pesquisa de Notícias (News Browser)
Thursday, January 12, 2006

SAPO, the Portugal Telecom portal, is going to launch the Beta version of the Pesquisa de Notícias (News Browser) for Portugal, thus fulfilling one of the main needs of Internet users – following mail and browsing, news is the third reason for using the Internet.

SAPO’s Pesquisa de Notícias uses over one hundred national and regional sources of information to afford its users the most relevant results for national reality thus assuring the position of world browser with the largest number of Portuguese sources.

The service can be consulted on the SAPO homepage, www.sapo.pt, or directly at http://noticias.sapo.pt

The importance given to the all that is Portuguese in SAPO’s Pesquisa de Notícias integrates the differentiating strategy that has been followed by Pesquisa SAPO, that endeavours to focus the Portuguese specificity in order to produce more relevant results for the national internauts.

SAPO also launches a challenge to all Portuguese media that haven’t been included in this first phase of the launch to communicate their wish in being involved in the project as its intention is to work together with all the Portuguese publications.

Pesquisa de Notícias is the first of a set of new functions which will be presented in 2006 by Pesquisa SAPO, resulting from the acquisition of crawling technology (allowing a high number of indexation of web pages) which permitted to strengthen SAPO’s competitiveness within a highly competitive market such as researching on the internet.

SAPO, who is leader in browsing in Portugal since its foundation eleven years ago, even though it has been competing with the world’s largest companies, hopes to increase its leadership with this launch.
