After having revealed its capacity to provide broadband at all its stations, PT has given yet another step and has another challenge ahead. Via PT Inovação it is developing a innovative technology at world level with the aim of boosting telephone lines. This project is going to render available a wide range of possibilities for new services to clients linked to a 100 Mb broadband offer, that is, five times the speed of the best ADSL offer on the market at the moment.

Henrique Granadeiro, Chairman of the PT Group, Rodrigo Costa, Chairman of PT Comunicações and Paulo Nordeste, Executive Chairman of PT Inovação, presented this project. For the Chairman of the PT Group, this step “is the launch of a new business area within the scope of PT Comunicações. The client will have a joint offer of voice, Internet and video, equally integrating value added services such as video vigilance and domotics. ".
Rodrigo Costa highlighted that this development is of great importance and that it affords clients a better offer. “We are convinced that this work is going to provide us a more dynamic and stronger solution, anticipating many of the offers we already have in some European countries and in the United States.”
This panoply of services aims at expanding the concept of Triple Play (data, voice and video) to Multi Play, on the telephone line, rendering available access to various TV channels in simultaneous, various films through video-on-demand and an unlimited number of applications. According to Paulo Nordeste, this development is going to “help PT Comunicações launch a new service next year and customise this service according to the type of client.”
During the conference there was a presentation of the Project and a visit to the lab
PT Inovação has a very important role in broadband development in Portugal. Note that it was via PicoDSLAM that the PT Group attained coverage of its station in broadband. Currently the company is developing mediaDSLAM which will allow for a further step forward and to render concrete this project. Thus PT Inovação is a differentiating element of PT’s offer in relation to its competitors.
The project which is under development is based on a technology known as VDSL2 and it is foreseen that the first prototypes will be available in October. Until the end of 2006 the system should be stabilised and the commercial launch is foreseen for March 2007.
PT continues to show its pioneer statute and its role in the development of our country.
