PT launches IPTV in Cape Verde

Cabo Verde Telecom is the first PT Group company to launch the IPTV service, affording its clients 21 television channels, broadband Internet, fixed telephone and video-on-demand

The IPTV service was launched today by CV Multimédia, a Cabo Verde Telecom Group (CVTelecom) company. Known as ZAP-TV and with na investment of around Euro 2.8 million, the service is going to render available triple-play on ADSL 2+ which has 21 television channels, broadband internet, fixed telephone and video-on-demand, on copper wire.

Cape Verdian viewers can now access more channels with highlight to Televisão de Cabo Verde, RTP África, SIC Notícias, TV Record, Rai Uno, BBC World, TV5, TV Galicia, Infinito, Fox Life, Fashion TV, Eurosport News, Euronews, Extreme Sport, TVE Internacional, CNBC, MCM, Lusomundo Premium and Gallery.

Henrique Granadeiro, Chairman of Portugal Telecom, said that "as of today there is an immediate connection tool cheaper that the existing classical means. This is a tool for the development of the country."

According to the Chairman of Board of CV Multimédia, António Pires Correia " CV Multimédia can assure that information society in Cape Verde is now a reality in terms of infrastructures ".

CVTelecom has coverage of the whole territory of Cape Verde. However, the service will first be available in the island of Santiago, Sal, S. Vicente, São Nicolau, Boavista and Santo Antão. Later Fogo, Brava and Maio will also have access to this service. It is foreseen that until the end of 2007 around 11 600 clients will have IPTV.

This launch ahs allowed PT to reinforce its commitment to develop the information society in all the markets in which i tis present.

Cabo Verde Telecom

CVTelecom renders services in the fixed and mobile telecommunications market.  Currently it has more that 72 thousand clients in the fixed business (around 80% of Cape Verdian homes) and 96 thousand clients in the mobile area (a penetration of 20%).

PT holds 40% of the company that registered gains of Euro 54.6 million, EBITDA margin of 58.9% and net results of Euro 13.6 million at 2005 year end.
