TMN and Lusomundo open the new era of electronic tickets
Friday, June 30, 2006
They are called m-tickets, a new way of buying movie tickets, and it’s their debut in Portugal. A innovative project in a joint partnership between Cinemas Lusomundo and TMN

Mobile ticketing (m-ticketing) makes going to the cinema even more pleasant. Now there is no need to arrive much earlier to buy a ticket or get the best seats or stay disillusioned with the “full” sign. You just need to choose the film, the room and session on the Lusomundo on-line ticket Office at www.lusomundo.pt, at the call centre (via  707 CINEMA - 707 246 362) or at any Cinemas Lusomundo ticket office and receive, via TMN, your movie tickets through SMS on your mobile.

The tickets bear a bar code and a number code indicating the room, session and seats.

The presentation of the m-ticket was at the Cinemas Lusomundo at the Vasco da Gama Shopping Centre, in Lisbon

Those who choose to buy a m-ticket keep the SMS that they receive and can enter the cinema via a privileged entrance, with direct access to the rooms, located next to the normal entrance. Here, an optical reader will validate the ticket: the client opens his SMS, approaches the mobile’s screen with the visible code and collects the ticket that the optical reader prints immediately. If the client has purchased more than one ticket for the same session, one SMS will contain the validation data for the number of entries bought.

Even if the mobile screen is damaged and the code can not be read, the electronic ticket system still functions. If this happens, the client validates his ticket by inserting the number code, also received via message, on the optical reader keyboard at the cinema.

Zeinal Bava, Chairman of TMN, Henrique Granadeiro, Chairman of PT and Mário Sousa, Product Manager at TMN presented the m-ticket to the press

According to Henrique Granadeiro, Chairman of the Portugal Telecom Group, “this technological solution is a practical application of TMN and Lusomundo and proof of the transversality of the group companies, always bearing in mind service quality rendered to the client”, he explains.
This service is now available at the Lusomundo cinemas of Fórum Almada, Colombo, Vasco da Gama and NorteShopping.

In addition to the advantages of comfort and safety inherent to the system, a new era in the acquisition of tickets for shows is now starting. Tickets can be bought whenever you wish and as long as there are vacant seats you can choose the one that best suits you. The client can also offer tickets to family members or friends in an original way or resend the m-ticket that he had bought for himself if he cannot make it to the session for some reason or the other.

Zeinal Bava feels that this innovation is an important moment for the Group “specially due to the capacity shown in being able to transform technical know-how and technological capacity to improve the daily life of citizens”, he says.

Throughout the promotional period of the service, which will last for 6 months, this new technology will be exclusively available for TMN clients.

The m-tickets cost 5 euros, and are thus cheaper than the traditional tickets.

The m-ticketing Project by Lusomundo and TMN was developed in partnership with TopSolutions and introduces a solution which is applicable to various business areas. The solution consists in the integration with the ticketing system - or CRM, depending on the case – of software for the creation and management of bar codes associated to the setting up of optical readers for the validation of codes. The readers verify, through a TMN GPRS data connection, the validity of the codes that are sent to the client’s mobile phone.

In the case of TMN / Lusomundo, the code is equivalent to a cinema ticket but in other cases it can be equivalent to a discount coupon or an offer.
