PT Multimedia supports Portuguese cinema
Friday, March 31, 2006
PT Multimedia signed an investment contract with the Ministry of Culture that foresees an investment of twenty-five million euros in the next five years.

The most passionate kisses, the most memorable love stories and the most important moments of history in the world are portrayed in films that we watch and watch again throughout our lives.  They are a part of our upbringing.  The cinema has always been one of the best and most complete forms of telling stories and the fascination of that big screen increases generation upon generation.

Pt Multimedia thus celebrated on 31st March an investment contract with the ministry of Culture.

For both parties this contract represents the turning of a page within the cinema and audiovisual sector as it opens a new path filled with potential and challenges.
“It is a very important project, not only in relation to the support to Portuguese cinema but also in the production of national contents”, said Zeinal Bava.

To support the cinema has been a concern for some time now at PT Multimedia.  This was why the Discovery Channel and Extreme Channel contests for national production of contents were launched.  Audio description is also a project worth highlighting, not only because it was the first but because it is mainly for a public with special needs, the blind.

“We continue to encourage new movie theatres and to exhibit around 25 Portuguese films per year on our cable channels.  The support rendered to Portuguese cinema is present in our company and that is why we have signed this contract because we believe that it will bring success to national culture”, explained the Chairman of PT Multimedia.

The company will invest twenty-five million euros throughout a five-year period, promising to pay up to five million euros per year.  These values will make it easier for new projects to appear, will increase work posts and will improve quality.

“We are talking about a rather significant amount and of a contract which was negotiated in an excellent atmosphere of constructive mood.  The Ministry of Culture congratulates this example of participation of the private sector in matters of public interest.  This partnership is absolutely vital for the dynamisation of our cultural sphere”, stated the Minister for Culture, Isabel Pires de Lima.

This contract will be an added-value for all those working in cinema and also for those love watching films.  The cinema and audiovisual sectors had been waiting for long to receive this sign.
