PT opens Archway in China

Yesterday, the PT Group officially opened in Beijing, China, Archway, a company for providing remote localisation services throughout the Chinese territory. The inauguration was done by the Chairman of PT, Henrique Granadeiro and took place in the scope of the official visit of the Portuguese Prime Minister, José Sócrates to the People’s Republic of China

Therefore, Archway initiates the provision of services in the area of information transmission related to vehicles or objects in motion in real time. The service provided by Archway integrates a terminal which is installed on vehicles or objects in motion, GPS localisation with SMS communication, the uploading of information to a Data Centre and real time access via the website by ends clients/users of all the information received in a remote manner. The Archway activity is mainly targeted at corporate clients in the Chinese transportation industry, namely fleets of merchandise lorries, passenger buses and other transportation vehicles.

The inauguration of Archway took place in the scope of the official visit of the Portuguese Prime Minister to China | Archway is participated 70% by the China Pathway Logistics (CPL) and 30% by China Transport Telecommunication Centre (CTTC). The PT Group detains 66,67% of CPL and the remaining capital is held by Arris Holding (a North American company). CTTC, a partner of CPL in Archway, is the official organism of the Ministry of Communications (MOC) in China, and is responsible for all of the communication systems related to the transportation industry and respective infrastructures in the People’s Republic of China.
We recall, that the PT Group, through PT Investimentos Internacionais, holds, in the Asian market, participation in the Companhia de Telecomunicações de Macau (mobile, fixed and internet communications operator) and Directel Macau (telephone directories) in Macao. PT also benefits from narrow ties with ZTE through a partnership with PT Inovação for the development of technical and scientific collaboration in the telecommunications area. With Huawei, a Chinese supplier of telecommunications equipment, PT signed a supply contract for mobile equipment for Vivo.
