Sapo jumps into Meo
Monday, November 17, 2008
Meo keeps anticipating trends and changing the television experience of its customers. As of 14 November cost-free content on the Sapo portal will become available on Meo service. The television of the future and the main Portuguese portal get together, becoming an example of Portugal Telecom’s innovation momentum

In a move towards convergence, Meo will integrate cost-free content from the Sapo portal. It is an experimental version, adapted for television viewing, but allows, at this stage, Meo IPTV customers to live a different television experience. Zeinal Bava disclosed this information at the opening session of the Sapo Codebits programming contest. PT’s CEO stressed how important it was for Portugal telecom to “keep working on a consumer experience that goes beyond the simple channel offering”.

The ease of use was also highlighted by Zeinal Bava. Customers will be able to access content such as News, Pharmacies, Traffic, Weather, Newsstand, Stock Exchange, Gambling and Horoscope through the television remote, by pressing <Menu>, option <Sapo>.

The big novelty lies in the incorporation of geo-referenced content, namely the information on pharmacies, traffic or the weather. If by any chance a customer needs to discover the nearest open pharmacy, the identification of the customer’s area of residence is made via the MeoBox’s IP address and the nearest open pharmacies are presented.

For Portugal Telecom, platform convergence is a natural evolution in the improvement of the television experience of customers and consumers at large, which will remain associated with novelties of this television service, still to be launched.
