Zlango TMN: icon-based messaging
Friday, July 25, 2008
TMN’s Zlango is a new messaging service that converts SMS messages into fun icons. A TMN exclusive in Portugal, the new service allows sending funny and original icons, known as ZMS, to friends and acquaintances instead of SMS messages

As of today, TMN customers can send ZMS messages, besides traditional SMS and MMS messages. Developed and launched in partnership with the Israelian company with same name, Zlango, the latest TMN service, allows users to keep writing their usual messages on their mobile phones and to convert them into Zlango language. It is more than 200 icons that allow a text message to be transformed into an original way of communicating with friends.

The Zlango application also allows the storage of sent or received messages, the use of a telephone book, as well as to invite friends to join the new service and to create their own Zlango messages. If the application is not yet installed at the phone of the message recipient, the message is received just as it was conceived, but as an MMS message.

In simultaneous with the launch of this mobile service, TMN has developed Zlngo’s incorporation into SAPO Messenger, in cooperation with SAPO.

If you are a TMN customer, you just need to send a free SMS message with letter “Z” to number 22200. After that, you will get a reply via an SMS message with a link, from where you can download the application without further costs, except for the cost of the normal WAP access.

Zlango has neither activation costs, nor monthly fee. The first ten ZMS messages are free, so that customers may try the service cost-free. After the first ten free messages, each ZMS message costs 5 cent, irrespective of the customer’s messaging tariff.

Zango is a Java application that will be available, in a first phase, in around 100 mobile phone models representing the most popular brands on the market, namely Nokia, Sony Ericsson, Samsung and Motorola. The number of models compatible with this service will be extended progressively.
