PT sponsors 13 students in the new edition of CM-Portugal
Thursday, October 01, 2009
Thirteen new students, employees and external candidates, have begun participation in the CM-Portugal program sponsored by Portugal Telecom.

Portugal Telecom celebrated the kick-off of a new edition of the CM-Portugal program. Thirteen students, including PT employees and external candidates, will be sponsored by PT in the scope of this program, an initiative that reflects PT’s bet on innovation as well as on the qualification and development of its human resources.

Manuel Garcia and Ana Dias stressed
that this support reflects the bet of the
company on talent development
During the kick-off ceremony, Manuel Garcia, Director of Information Services and Technologies, stressed that PT does want to stagnate in terms of knowledge, therefore it grants this support to both employees and external candidates. “We want to be at the leading edge of the market with the best talent, transforming it into value for the company”, added Manuel Garcia.

Ana Dias, from the Development and Leadership Department, highlighted the potential of this initiative for PT in terms of development of its human resources in what regards organisational behaviour, as it is expected that the immersion of these students in a high-demanding international environment for 16 months will prepare them for their reintegration, become agents of change through new approaches outside traditional ‘out-of-the-box’ schemes, opening new ways for PT’s innovation and assertiveness and positively contaminate the organisation.

CM-Portugal program was created in the scope of a collaboration agreement between a vast group of Portuguese universities and R&D institutions, CM (Carnegie-Mellon University) and companies operating in the Portuguese ICT industry, aiming to provide world-level educational and research actions. PT has been an affiliated company from the very first minute, having celebrated a cooperation agreement with FCT (Science and Technology Foundation), in which it commits itself to financially support the program as well as its management.

PT supports Professional Masters preferably in the domain of Information Processing & Networking:

  • Master in Information Networking (MSIN) - University of Aveiro and CM;
  • Master in Information Technology – Information Security - University of Lisbon and CM;
  • Master in Software Engineering (MSE) – University of Coimbra and CM;
  • Master in Human-Computer Interaction (MHCI) – University of Madeira and CM.

Professional Masters sponsored by PT confer students a double academic degree: by both the respective Portuguese University and by Carnegie-Mellon University.
