EMC honoured Portugal Telecom with the “Innovation for virtualisation using EMC infrastructures” award, for its strong bet on server virtualisation.

On 20 October last, EMC honoured Portugal Telecom for its strong bet on server virtualisation for a more effective use of IT resources: a recognition that is part of the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the company, a specialist in information storage, protection, and optimisation solutions.

The “Innovation for virtualisation using EMC infrastructures” award conferred to PT is associated with its strong bet on virtualisation, for a more effective use of IT resources. The award was delivered to Manuel Garcia, IT Services Department, who explains that server virtualisation supports a good deal of PT’s new systems nowadays. He stresses that the company is running the “L2G – Legacy to Green” project, whose goal is the migration whenever possible from legacy servers to virtual environments.

Also for the business market, PT has implemented service platforms in virtual environments where it is delivering collaborative and hosting services at this moment, being already able to offer cloud computing services.

According to Manuel Garcia, this award “also expresses the way how we challenge our partners into working with us, bringing ideas and experiences that may help us in very important fields: Quality of Service increase, efficiency and effectiveness improvement in the way how we work, but also in terms of innovation in service delivery for both the internal and outside markets”.

This project, developed by the IT Services team, links two strategic ideas within the company: innovation and sustainability. This is quite visible in the efficient use of internal resources and energy reduction, but also in the positioning of the company vis-à-vis its customers, so as to help them to become more effective and sustainable.
