More humour with Sapo and Produções Fictícias
Tuesday, June 02, 2009
The Sapo/ Produções Fictícias partnership keeps bearing fruit. Humour will continue to flow out, consolidated through more content.

It started as an adventure. Now it is a consolidated project. This was how Abílio Martins, Board Member, Portugal Telecom, defined the partnership established between Sapo and Produções Fictícias at the press conference for the presentation of new products, which also celebrated the second anniversary of the producer.

Portuguese humour is still the main focus of Produções Fictícias TV (PFtv), which is hosted with Sapo, now with a new image and even more space – exclusive – for entertainment content.

“Comedian Hunt” is a new contest to premiere next summer, enabling the identification of new talent in humour. The website of ‘Paradise Films’ cult series will be launched at the same time, premiering an episode each week. This show, whose protagonists are António Feio and José Pedro Gomes, has already appeared on RTP1. ‘Football Justice’ will also be back in August featuring the usual comments from José Pina, Pedro Marques Lopes and Pedro Ribeiro, as well as the ‘Football Geek” sketches from Luís Franco-Bastos, also renowned nowadays for his participation on ‘The Contemporaneous’ TV show on RTP.

PFtv experiences a day-to-day challenge of keeping audiences high, but the results are quite illustrative: more than two thousand videos and 10.5 million pageviews. “We have made it”, said Abílio Martins, full of conviction, as he underlined the “courage of coming up with new projects”. For the Internet, Sapo wants premium content. An ambition materialised once again with the announcement of this new content.

Abílio Martins described  the
beginning of the partnership
 as an adventure that became
already a consolidated project

On balance, there were “moments of vertigo”, “of accomplishments”, achieved for example through the internationalisation of Sapo. PT’s Board Member also stressed that PF’s content has become a reference not only on the Internet but also on the mobile platform, such as Sapo Mobile and Meo VideoClub.

Nuno Artur Silva spoke about a change
of habits by which the producer learns,
"to make content evolve"
“Permanence and continuity.” These words are quite representative of this partnership, according to Nuno Artur Silva, director, Produções Fictícias, who underlined the fact that the producer is always exchanging ideas with Sapo. The fact that this is a bet on Portuguese content consolidates the strength of this project.

A project, which has already found its space on the Internet, where “all emerging comedians concentrate”, he added. Abílio Martins recollected the example of Luís Franco-Bastos who emerged precisely via the Internet.

The introduction of optical fibre announces “new applications, new formats, enabling higher interactivity and quality as well. As to content, it will be possible to experiment new high definition formats”, said PT’s Board Member. The consequences are already visible: “The media are changing radically, consumption habits change as well as business models”. We are pioneering this learning and assuming a few risks, to make content evolve”, said Nuno Artur Silva.
