Monday, May 04, 2009
PT is deploying Digital Terrestrial Television by means of an implementation process that will reach full coverage of the country up to end of 2010. On 29 April, the start of the DTT broadcasts took place in 29 municipalities in Portugal, and Portugal Telecom launched an advertising campaign along with the start of the broadcasts in the press and radio that will run until next 9 May

“Your television of always will be digital as of now”. In conjunction with the launch of DTT (Digital Terrestrial Television) that took place on 29 April, Portugal Telecom will present an advertising campaign in the press and radio, national and regional billboards, as well as several pieces available at the PT shops.

It is worth mentioning that PT is deploying throughout the country the necessary infrastructure for access to the new era of Digital Television, thus enabling a new television experience cost-free. Around 40% of the Portuguese population can already access the Digital Television for all Portuguese.

DTT will replace the current analogue terrestrial broadcasting that transmits the generalist channels – RTP, RTP 2, SIC and TVI, RTP Azores and RTP Madeira – providing enhanced image quality, digital sound and functionalities available up to now only in pay-tv offers, such as:

  • TV Guide: detail of current and future programming of each channel;
  • Programming Bar: displays current and next shows on other channels;
  • Digital Recording: allows scheduling and recording content broadcast by TV channels;
  • TV Pause: allows real-time pause of broadcast and resuming it later on;
  • High Definition: existence of a high definition channel provided cost-free, that will be broadcast simultaneously with a standard definition channel in a sequential way.
