PT kicks off new services: music and video-club on the PC
Tuesday, November 16, 2010
PT launched Meo Online and Music Box today, two services that reinforce its bet on entertainment contents for television, mobile devices and PCs.

Portugal Telecom’s bet on entertainment contents for TV, mobile devices and PCs was consolidated today with the launch of two new services: Meo Online that allows PC-based access to the Meo Video-Club anyplace; and Music Box, through which Meo, Sapo and Meo customers may access a digital atalogue with millions of tunes, listen to them at once with a simple click.

Pedro Leitão says that PT is heading towards the convergence of brands TMN, SAPO and Meo
These services reinforce PT’s bet on the availability of entertainment contents and applications, from a multi-platform viewpoint, adapted to a suitable use on the mobile phone, PC and TV set, enabling the user to have a similar experience whatever the used device. According to Pedro Leitão, Board Member, PT, these services are the fulfillment of a promise made to consumers when Meo was launched. “Since that time, we have been trying to innovate in order to make true the promise to offer the television of the future. But beyond TV, we also seek to extend Meo’s experience to other displays”, he says.

Vera Pinto Pereira, product director, TV, explains that the launch of new different, innovative and competitive services is based on four big pillars: content, functionalities, interactivity and multi-platform. Meo Online service follows this approach and makes available the access to PC-based Meo Video-Club.

You may as of now rent and view Meo Video-Club contents by means of a PC with broadband access (available for Meo  ADSL, Fibre and Satellite customers). You just need to access http://online.meo.pt and make your registration. As of that moment, you will gain access to more than 500 titles for immediate viewing.

For Vera Pinto Pereira the  Meo Video-Club on the PC represents the connection  between the online world and TV

Online rented movies will be available on the PC and the MeoBox and vice-versa, and in case the movie has been rented via TV it is also available on the PC. Apart from the movies, it is possible to watch the trailers and the list of Favourites, My Rented Movies and Recommendations in the area “My Video-Club”. Access to the service will be free until year-end. Vera Pinto Pereira highlights the quality of film viewing, the same quality as on a TV set as it is possible to watch high-definition movies on the PC.

Together with the launch of the Meo Video-Club, the press conference held at Forum Telecom in Lisbon also launched Music Box, a service that will enable TMN, SAPO and Meo customers to access millions of tunes via TV set, mobile phone or PC.

This simple, fast and intuitive service “aggregates partnerships with several editors; therefore, it is possible to offer millions of tunes to the users. With one single account, the customer will be able to access the service from three displays”, explains César Vistas, director, Broadband.

He adds that this service is a response to the change that is taking place in the world of music that is “unlimited today. Users wish to listen to music anyplace, share it with their friends and want unlimited access”.

With Music Box there is no need to download music tracks. The service may be accessed through a single account via TV, mobile phone (or tablet) and PC. PT customers with broadband (TMN, SAPO or MEO) or mobile voice (TMN) will be able to listen millions of tunes and create their playlists of favourite tunes to listen anyplace and share them on Facebook and Twitter. All this in a very simple and intuitive way, through new applications for PC and mobile phone that contain suggestions of new tracks, playlists of artists, recommendations of albums, etc. Highlight goes to the compatibility of these applications with the Samsung Galaxy Tablet.

Subscribers to this service may download 10 MP3 tunes each month that can be played in every suitable reader. To subscribe this service, it is enough to access http://musicbox.tmn.pt or http://musicbox.sapo.pt or call 16200 and make a registration.

César Vistas highlights the simplicity,
rapidity and facility
of the music box service
Music Box is free for Meo customers paying monthly fees over €50 and for SAPO ADSL 24Mbps customers. For TMN customers, the service will also be free for customers with voice tariffs: Unlimited or Broadband Regular, Plus and Super or E-escolas 2nd and 3rd grade (students, teachers and new opportunities). For all other PT customers, this service will cost €4.99 per month (including data traffic on the TMN mobile phone). It is worth noticing that during the kick-off campaign this service will be free for three months, enabling customers to try the service without any costs.

In order to develop such innovative service, PT established a partnership with Nmusic that will bring great names of the music world to Music Box as well as all contents of the main music editors such as Universal Music, Sony BMG and The Orchard.

Musician David Fonseca was also present at the press conference of presentation of Music Box, a service that he deems to be “a sure step in the relationship of musicians with their listeners. It will contribute to the reduction of copyright piracy and the valuation of work developed by the record industry”.

The musicians applauded this launch, which will provide PT’s customers with access with access to millions of tunes in a fully legal way.
