One of the best waves in the world, Supertubes, may be caught in Peniche where the 8th event of the Men’s ASP World Tour and the 6th event of the Women’s ASP World Tour will be held from 7 to 18 October. Highlight goes once again to TMN’s presence in surf as it will sponsor the event that will bring the best surfers in the world to Portugal. Everything is ready for the start of the Rip Curl Pro Portugal powered by TMN.

| "This competition will be a success. Good waves, good surfers, a good competition", says Mafalda Torgal |
For the second consecutive year, TMN will catch the best waves by sponsoring the biggest surf event held in Portugal. Surf magic, show and emotion will be back on the beaches of Peniche and the best surfers in the world with them.
“This support reinforces TMN’s presence in surf, a bet being built by supporting athletes, schools and championships. We bring a lot to surf, but surf also brings a lot to us. TMN is in surf to stay”, explains Mafalda Torgal, Sponsorships and Events, TMN, during the Press Conference that gathered José Farinha from Rip Curl, António Padeira, Turismo de Portugal, António Correia, the mayor of Peniche, and other big names of surf such as Mick Fanning, Tiago Pires, Stephanie More, among others.
This competition gathers the best 32 male surfers and the best 17 female surfers of the ASP World Tour, which will be held in Portugal from 7 to 18 October. The female competition opened the event today and will continue up to the 11th. Tiago Pires, TMN-sponsored Portuguese surfer, will be present in this competition side by side with the world’s best.
“It is a great honour, a big joy to be here once again, competing in front of our Portuguese public that accompanies me all year long throughout the world. This is the moment of showing them what I am doing, trying to do my best to take the name of our country through the surfing world”, says Tiago Pires. He stresses the pride that he feels in the Portuguese coast and beaches and confesses that he will try to “benefit from the help of the Portuguese public and the strength that comes from the beach to give me still more strength”.
Simultaneously with the support for the event, TMN bets on the projection of national surf by supporting surfer Tiago Pires and the organisation of the TMN Trials. Portuguese surfer Marlon Lipke won the Trials and ensured a place for himself in the competition side by side with Tiago Pires and other big names of surf.
“I came here so I wanted to win as this event is one of the most special events in Europe, especially of Portugal. Being present at the championship is very special for me, so I’m very glad”, says Marlon Lipke.
The Rip Curl Pro Search 2009 was considered the Event of 2009, received 100,000 people and got a full live media coverage by television, radio and internet. This year, there will be further novelties: Meo will livecast, as an exclusive, in 3D mode, all rounds of the Rip Curl Pro Portugal powered by TMN, from the quarterfinals to the Final.
“This year, MEO associated itself with TMN to sponsor this event and will in fact livecast in 3D, which is a complete innovation in this world of surf and of the World Tour”, reveals Mafalda Torgal.
The best Portuguese surfers will surf side by side with the world’s best until 18 October. Catch TMN’s wave and go to Peniche to watch the Rip Curl Pro Portugal powered by TMN.
