The month of December, due to its festive nature, is often associated with frequent and long trips around the country. This Monday 19th December ANSR launched a communication campaign to make motorists aware of risky behavior on the road, such as speeding, driving under the influence of alcohol, or using a cell phone while driving.
“The best gift is being present” refers to the commitment to travel without haste, with Zero alcohol and Zero cell phones. “All together, we will ensure that no family is torn apart, that none of us loses a family member, a friend, or a neighbor. It is everyone's commitment to Zero Deaths.” This is the main objective of this campaign that Altice Portugal joins as a partner.
According to ANSR data, “road accidents are a global tragedy: every year 1.35 million people die worldwide. That's 3700 people a day, 1 person every 24 seconds. It is the leading cause of death for 5 to 29-year-olds.”
ANSR also mentions that in Portugal, and despite the results obtained in the last two decades, around 600 people die on Portuguese roads every year, in addition to more than 2000 who are seriously injured and who have permanent disabilities.
It is important to involve all sectors of society in the fight against road accidents. To celebrate Christmas and the New Year with joy, there is still an appeal for safe travel. "We all want to be together with our families and friends and not have an empty seat at the table."
