MEO Sons do Mar is back in Funchal with big names

Next September 9th and 10th, MEO Sons do Mar will have another edition with big names of national music such as Carolina Deslandes, Bárbara Tinoco, and Mariza. This is already the 10th edition of the festival, which will be held once again at Santa Catarina Park, in Funchal.

Altice Portugal, through MEO, the Municipality of Funchal, and PEV ENTERTAINMENT will invest in MEO Sons do Mar for the tenth time. As in previous editions, MEO Sons do Mar - set in a unique setting over Funchal bay - associates itself with renowned national artists. This year, MEO Ambassadors Carolina Deslandes and Bárbara Tinoco stand out.

The concerts are scheduled for 9th September, at Santa Catarina Park, in Funchal. Fado singer Mariza will take the stage on the 10th, for a night that promises to be unique.

João Epifânio, Chief Sales Officer (CSO) B2C from Altice Portugal, attended the presentation of the festival and stressed that the return of MEO Sons do Mar "and always with Portuguese artists, is a clear sign of development and support for Portuguese culture". The CSO also reinforced the fact that this is the tenth edition, which was only interrupted due to the pandemic.

After two atypical years, we know that it will be different from the usual. Even so, MEO Sons do Mar intends to return normality and contact with culture to the citizens, ensuring at the same time a safe and comfortable environment and a unique experience.

Carolina Deslandes. She is one of the greatest artists of the current generation of Portuguese singers and songwriters. With millions of views on Youtube, she has trodden a meteoric path since her debut, asserting herself as one of the leaders, not only in the digital universe but in contemporary national music.

"Casa", her third album of originals, was released on 20th April and went straight to 1st place in the national Top Sales, becoming the album that sold the most in its debut week in 2018. Belonging to "Casa" are the songs "A Vida Toda" - awarded with the Golden single and with over 7 million views on Youtube - and "Avião de Papel" (lyrics and music by Carolina Deslandes) feat. Rui Veloso, which in just 2 months surpassed 3 million views on Youtube and flew directly to the national sales and streaming tops.

Carolina participated in 2010 in the show "Ídolos" where she conquered the Portuguese public. In 2012, "Não É Verdade", which adds up to 3.5 million views, would be the first single to reach the biggest national radios, taken from her eponymous album. In 2014, she edited "Blossom", and "Mountains", the duet with Agir, which became an unprecedented success, accounting to date for more than 11 million views.

Bárbara Tinoco. Self-taught in guitar and singing, she studies Musical Sciences at the Nova Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities. In 2018 she made a name for herself with her very brief passage through the casting stage of the show "The Voice Portugal", where, although she was not selected, she had the opportunity to showcase an original song.

In 2019, she released "Antes Dela Dizer Que Sim", her debut single, recorded at RF Estúdio and Estúdio Zeco by Ricardo Ferreira, João Só and Nuno Simões. The video already has over 5 million views on Youtube. The second single - "Sei Lá" - was released in December.

At the end of 2019, she was invited to play the first part of the concerts of João Só's "Só 10 Anos" tour, and then made her solo debut at Cineteatro Capitólio. In March of this year, she takes the stage at Sala Suggia of Casa da Música, in Porto. Before that, in February, she participated in the Festival da Canção, interpreting a song written by Tiago Nacarato.

Mariza. An indispensable name in Portuguese music, this year marks the twenty-first year of her career and Mariza returns to her roots and demonstrates all the strength of her personality and her talent on stage, bringing her most recent album "Mariza Canta Amália", as well as all her greatest successes which paved the way for a career that no other Portuguese artist, since Amália Rodrigues herself, has built internationally with such success.

An almost hidden local phenomenon, shared only by a small circle of Lisbon admirers who turned Mariza and her extraordinary voice into one of the most applauded stars of the world music circuit. And, at the same time, into a true ambassador of Fado who doesn't hesitate to take new and daring paths, without ever losing sight of its soul.
